For the third consecutive year, Legal 500 has named Selendy & Gay one of the country’s top litigation firms. The firm’s Securities & Structured Finance, Complex Commercial Disputes and Appellate practices, along with several individual attorneys, were recognized among the best in their fields.
“An Enviable Track Record of Recoveries” in Securities Litigation
Legal 500 lauded the firm’s expertise in complex securities cases, calling the practice “a destination preferred by large private equity clients, among others.” The group’s plaintiff-side work against Wall Street banks, energy companies and major players in pharmaceuticals also earned high praise.
Practice head Philippe Selendy was named to the elite “Securities Hall of Fame,” while Sean Baldwin was once again ranked as a “Leading Lawyer” in the space. Andrew Dunlap was also highly recommended for his work alongside Selendy on a class action alleging that Tether, a purported “stablecoin,” was fully backed by U.S. dollars as part of a market-manipulation scheme that inflated the price of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, costing investors hundreds of billions of dollars.
Leaders in Complex Commercial Disputes
The firm’s Complex Commercial Disputes practice also received nationwide recognition, with Legal 500 writing, “Selendy & Gay has developed a fantastic reputation since entering the market in 2018. Acting for plaintiffs and defendants, the team attracts a wide range of work, including fraud, unfair competition, securities and trade secrets litigation; however, its track record in financial services litigation is particularly impressive.”
Managing Partner David Elsberg was recognized as “highly regarded for his trial practice, with particular strength in financial litigation, including major bankruptcy and securities cases.” Also recommended was Managing Partner Jennifer Selendy, “who has experience in virtually every core area of commercial litigation.”
Faith Gay, Jordan Goldstein and Lena Konanova were also highlighted for their expertise in this area.
Standouts in Appellate Work
Clients surveyed by Legal 500 called the firm’s appellate practice “very capable, creative, and responsive,” adding, “it maintains a notable presence in the New York Court of Appeals, where it most recently racked up wins for companies active in sectors such as pharmaceutical, healthcare, and insurance.”
Practice head Caitlin Halligan, whose counsel of record experience before the U.S. Supreme Court includes more than 45 cases, was cited as highly skilled in this area.
