Partner Lauren Zimmerman spoke at the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association’s 2024 Lavender Law Conference, where she was recognized as one of the 40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40. Lavender Law is the largest LGBTQ+ legal conference in the country, featuring programming on various topics, from discussions of policy developments to exploring the challenges and opportunities faced by LGBTQ+ professionals in the industry.
Lauren moderated a panel titled “Decoding the Impact of Content Moderation and Censorship Laws on LGBTQ+ Communities,” which examined the current trends in state and federal legislative efforts to censor LGBTQ+ related speech and content. The panel discussed the removal and restriction of public school library books and online content, highlighting the cases Lauren is litigating against multiple Florida school districts for removing “And Tango Makes Three,” a widely lauded children’s book that conveys positive messaging about same-sex families.
She was joined on the panel by Dannielle (Danny) King of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Jared Trujillo of CUNY School of Law, and Cynthia Weaver of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
During the conference, Lauren also received her award as one of the 40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40, a selective national list that recognizes LGBTQ+ legal professionals who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrate a profound commitment to LGBTQ+ equality.
