Partner David Flugman presented as a panelist on the impact of the November election on LGBTQ+ communities at the Williams Institute Fall Salon alongside several experts on LGBTQ+ law and public policy.
During this panel, David discussed the amicus brief Selendy Gay filed on behalf of two scholars associated with the Williams Institute in United States, et al. v. Skrmetti, a case in which the Supreme Court will determine the constitutionality of Tennessee’s ban on the provision of gender-affirming medical care to minors. He also discussed the suit that the firm recently filed alongside the ACLU to strike down South Carolina’s ban on gender-affirming care.
David is a leader of Selendy Gay’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and is a frequent contributor to publications on diversity, with a particular focus on LGBTQ+ rights issues, including “conversion therapy” and the intersection of civil rights and religious liberty. He was joined on the panel by Cary Franklin, Williams Faculty Chair/UCLA Constitutional Law Professor, Alexia Korberg, Executive Director at Her Justice, Antonious Porch, Chief Legal and DEI Officer at SoundCloud, Emilia Yu, Research Director at Coqual, and Elana Redfield Williams Federal Policy Director.
The event was co-hosted by the Williams Institute, UCLA School of Law’s research center on sexual orientation and gender identity, and Meta.
