Julie Singer is a litigator with experience in a wide array of complex litigation matters in federal and state courts. In her commercial practice, Julie has represented clients in high-stakes corporate governance, shareholder, securities, structured finance, and bankruptcy disputes, among other subject areas.

Julie’s representations include:

  • Fortis Advisors, the former shareholders of revolutionary robotic surgery startup Auris Health, in an earnout dispute with its acquiror, Johnson & Johnson. Our clients alleged that Johnson & Johnson breached the merger agreement and defrauded the shareholders, resulting in its failure to achieve certain earnout milestones. After four years of litigation—including approximately 70 depositions, nine experts, and a 10-day trial—the Delaware Court of Chancery ruled on September 4, 2024, that Johnson & Johnson owed the former shareholders more than $1 billion in damages. The Court’s 145-page decision set a major precedent and is the largest earnout-related damages award in Delaware history.
  • U.S. Bank, as trustee of ABSHE, in an action to recover hundreds of millions of dollars from DLJ and Ameriquest.
  • Liquidators of several BVI-based funds in Chapter 15 proceedings in Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, and before the U.S. District Court on appeal, asserting foreign avoidance, common law, and breach of contract claims, seeking to recover about $6 billion in redemption payments from hundreds of entities arising out of the Madoff scheme.

Julie also maintains an active public interest and pro bono practice. She currently represents transgender South Carolinians and their families in a suit challenging South Carolina’s ban on gender-affirming healthcare. She also recently helped author an amicus brief in United States v. Skrmetti, a case pending before the Supreme Court concerning the constitutionality of Tennessee’s ban on the provision of gender-affirming medical care to minors.

Prior to joining Selendy Gay, Julie served as a law clerk for the Honorable Ann M. Donnelly of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Julie earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan, where she served as an Articles Editor for the Michigan Journal of Gender and Law and volunteered for the Civil Rights Litigation Clearinghouse.
