Selendy Gay was named the top law firm in LGBTQ+ representation by The American Lawyer, with just over 15% of attorneys self-identifying as LGBTQ+. This was the first year Selendy Gay was considered among the nation’s 350 largest firms by attorney headcount, making the firm newly eligible for inclusion on the LGBTQ+ Scorecard.
Faith Gay, in an interview, notes that the firm sought to establish an inclusive environment since its founding. “From the beginning of the firm, two things happened. One, we made incredibly clear in the recruiting community that we were an open and welcoming firm, that we were committed to talent, that we think diversity, especially for a trial firm, is imperative for success in the market,” Faith stated. “And I think having one of the founding partners be an openly gay woman, I’m sure provided some comfort in the market as well.”
Selendy Gay is committed to advancing the rights of LGTBQ+ people through its pro bono and public interest practices. In 2024, Selendy Gay was shortlisted for Chambers’ “Outstanding Pro Bono Firm of the Year” and “DEI: Outstanding Contribution” categories for its representation of the authors of And Tango Makes Three, a widely lauded children’s book that conveys a positive message about same-sex parents and their families.
