Selendy Gay associate Amanda Miner and Protect Democracy attorney Rachel Goodman co-authored an op-ed published in the Richmond Times-Dispatch that discusses the efforts of election deniers to spread disinformation and overturn election results, and highlights election workers who are holding them accountable.
This article explores how women, who make up the majority of election workers in the U.S., are being unfairly targeted by these efforts, which include exploiting clerical errors to suggest election conspiracies and spreading false claims about election manipulation without evidence. Namely, Michele White, a former election official in Virginia, was falsely accused of election crimes and faced severe damage to her career and reputation, despite charges being dropped. Selendy Gay and Protect Democracy recently filed a malicious prosecution lawsuit on her behalf.
Miner and Goodman commend these women for standing up against the false claims made against them to maintain the integrity of the democratic process in the United States.
